The short version, on your baby's audio

When you record your baby's cry in Cry Translate, that audio is processed entirely on your device. We do not upload it, we do not store a copy of it on our servers, and we do not send it to any third party, including our own analytics or AI providers. Once you leave the recording screen, the audio is discarded. The only things we ever keep are the result of the analysis (a category like "Hunger" and a confidence score) and the time it happened, and even those stay in a small history on your own device unless you've signed in, in which case only that same non-audio summary, never the sound itself, is associated with your anonymous account so your history can sync.

What this app does

AI Baby Cry Translate ("Cry Translate," "the app," "we," "us") helps parents make an informed, on-device guess about why a baby might be crying, based on a short audio recording. It is a companion for tired nights, not a medical device, and this policy explains what information the app handles while you use it.

Audio recordings

As described above, cry recordings are analyzed locally on your device and are never transmitted to or stored on our servers. Microphone access is requested only while you are actively using the Listening screen, and only to capture the few seconds of audio needed for that one analysis.

Information we do collect

An anonymous account identifier. The app signs you in anonymously (via Firebase Authentication) so your settings and analysis history can be restored if you reinstall the app. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or any other personally identifying information unless you choose to provide it.
Baby profile. A name and birthdate you optionally enter to personalize the app. This is stored on your device (and, if signed in, associated with your anonymous account), never shared with any third party.
Analysis history. The category and confidence score of each analysis, and when it happened, not the audio itself (see above).
Ask AI questions, only if you opt in. The Ask AI chat feature sends the text you type to a third-party AI provider (OpenAI) to generate a reply. This happens only after you've explicitly given consent in the app, and only the question text is sent, never audio, your baby's name, or any other identifier. You can withdraw this consent at any time in Settings, just as easily as you gave it.
Basic subscription and diagnostic data. Our payments provider (RevenueCat) and Apple's App Store process purchase and subscription status. We do not receive your payment card details.

Third-party services we use

We rely on a small number of well-established service providers, each for a narrow purpose:

Firebase (Google): anonymous authentication and app configuration.
RevenueCat: subscription and purchase management.
OpenAI: generates Ask AI replies, and only receives the text you type there, and only with your consent.

None of these providers receive your baby's audio recordings.

Your choices

You can withdraw Ask AI consent at any time in Settings.
You can delete your account and its associated data from Settings.
You can decline microphone access; the app simply won't be able to record and analyze a cry.

Children's privacy

Cry Translate is designed for use by parents and caregivers, not by children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. The app's whole purpose is to help an adult caregiver understand an infant who cannot yet describe their own needs, and the infant is never the app's user or account holder.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects how your information is handled, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, for material changes, note it within the app.
